DETAILED INFORMATION

Family mediation allows you to understand your rights, ask questions, receive information, and, above all, allow you to reach an agreement within yourself. If you want your agreement to be legally binding, you will need to obtain a judgment. Obtaining a judgment is not a service included with subsidized mediation. You can look on the other pages for information on obtaining a judgment. To do this, you will need to book an appointment where both parties must attend a single one- to two-hour meeting to help you find an amicable solution to your case.

Family mediation is subsidized in the following cases: if you do not have dependent children, the subsidy covers 3 hours once per lifetime, and you must never have participated in subsidized mediation together. If you have at least one dependent child, the subsidy covers 5 hours the first time you use the service and 2.5 hours every twelve months thereafter, for as long as you have a dependent child.

The required documents are any documents you deem useful to fully resolve your case. If you have at least one dependent child, both parties must have proof of income, such as their most recent Quebec notice of assessment, their most recent Quebec tax return, and their last three pay stubs. These are three different sets of documents.
